The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Walin Sokoto), has expressed profound grief over the recent wave of violent attacks in Tureta and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas, which reportedly claimed the lives of more than 60 people and forced residents of over 17 communities to flee their homes.
Hon. Dan’iya described the incidents as a painful tragedy for Sokoto State and the nation at large, noting that the continued loss of innocent lives to banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality remains a matter of grave concern that demands urgent and sustained attention.
In a statement issued through his Press Secretary/Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC gubernatorial candidate extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, the affected communities, traditional institutions, and the government and people of Sokoto State.
According to him, “The loss of every innocent life is a tragedy that diminishes us all. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, the injured, and the thousands of residents who have been displaced as a result of these unfortunate attacks. May Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.”
Hon. Dan’iya expressed concern over the persistent security challenges facing many communities across Sokoto State and other parts of the country, stressing that peace and security remain fundamental requirements for development, economic growth, and social stability.
“No society can prosper when citizens live in fear. The protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of government, and every effort must be directed towards ensuring that communities are safe, secure, and able to pursue their daily activities without threat,” he stated.
The ADC candidate called for a renewed and comprehensive approach to addressing insecurity, including improved intelligence gathering, stronger collaboration among security agencies, enhanced community engagement, and increased support for frontline security personnel.
He further urged security agencies to intensify operations in affected areas, bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice, and take proactive measures to prevent future attacks.
“The challenge before us requires collective resolve. Government institutions, security agencies, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and citizens must work together to confront this threat and restore lasting peace to our communities,” he added.
Hon. Dan’iya also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that may assist ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities.
He prayed for divine comfort for the families of the deceased, speedy recovery for those injured, and the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen security, promote social harmony, and safeguard the welfare of all citizens, emphasizing that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, stability, and justice.
